Are Mexicans or Latinos Spanish??
I have seen questions on this yahoo answers asking if Mexicans or latinos are spanish? What do you think?
People may say that Spanish are people in spain. But Mexicans and latinos from other parts of latin america are direct descendants from Portugal and Spain during the 1600’s of the colonial era when gold and silver was discovered in latin america. Spain mined gold and silver from Mexico, Peru and other countries, transported the wealth on galleons that sailed to Madeira Islands of Portugal and Canary Islands of Spain and on to Portugal and Spain. And on the way back the same route was used. Here is the proof of the route:

I am mexican and I have studied our countries past in the archives and have browsed through them to see where are ancestors came from. The silver and gold brought many people from Spain and Portugal to latin america during the 1600’s and 1700’s

If Mexicans are Spanish, then Americans are European, Asian, African, Australian, etc..
Get my point?
Mexicans are NOT Spanish. Mexicans are Mexican. Some with Spanish descendants.
Mexican American and I’m sure I’m part or mostly spanish–Indians aren’t hairy, spaniards were…course that’s just me deducing.
Mexicans are native-Indians. I am a 7th generation Mexican-American and Im pretty much 98% AMERICAN.
Latinos are descendants of EUROPEANS, not just spaniards.
I hate when people refer to latinos as HISPANICS.

Eeee Geee. Im sorry to say this but You are WRONG.
60% of Mexicans are Spanish descendants 30% European. 10% other,. THat is why MEXICAN dont look alike. There are White, tall mexicans (spanish, european descendants). and short-dark skins Native-Indian-other. You get the point.

98% of Mexicans coming to the U.S. are Indigenous people so you will be wrong to say that all mexicans are like the ones you see working on cornfields.
well, mexicans living in mexico have different backgrounds.
some are spanish, some are indian, some are german and some are irish. a few are russian. then you have the mexicans who are the mix all the groups i mentioned.
now 95% of the mexicans comin to the usa are indian and only 5% are the others.
thats why americans think that all mexicans have dark brown skin, are short and dont know what else.
i’ve been all over mexico, i know what im talking about,
the same with the rest of latin america but they also have blacks and portuguese
My wife who is Mexican would say she is Mexican, She speaks Spanish. I believe that Latino is a generalization of anyone who is from any part of Mexico or South America. But because Spain discovered South America and Mexico their language was more prominent then others.
The Spanish, unlike other colonizing powers, chose to assimilate and intermarry creating a class of “mullato’s “, halfbreeds of sort that carry both indigenous blood, and blood of the continent.
A Mexican, cannot claim to be Spanish or Hispanic unless they can trace their ancestry to Spain, and trust me, there many affluent pale skined Mexican families that are very bound to their ancestoral roots and refuse to acknolwedge the fact they are not 100% blue blooded.
You ought to research the influx of European criminals and fugitives that came into Mexico in the 19th century.
Or the new phenomenon of Asian mogols coming in to Mexico and attempting to profit from labor and industry….In a few generations there will be Mexican/Asians on playgrounds all over the world
Edit: Poppin makes a really good point!
Before Spanish was spoken in Spain Latin was spoken, hence the term Latino (coming from latin descent). People in Latin America (Mexico and South America) are usually referred to as Hispanic because they are of both Spanish and Native American descent. Only people in Spain are normally referred to as Spanish. People in the Caribbean prefer to be called Latino if anything at all, since they are also descended from French (in Haiti), slaves escaping from the US, natives and Spanish (they are not too big on the race labeling). But then you have Brazilians and Portuguese….who are also descended from Eastern Europeans. See how this “race” thing gets tricky…better to call people by their first name.
9% are Spanish
60% are half Spanish
31% are no Spanish.
heres a question, if you are an American, then you must be English!?
Mexicans are Mexicans. If you are of Spanish decent you are White/Caucasian. If you are mixed with Spanish you are ‘Moreno’ (I don’t think they use Mestizo anymore).
Latino is a foolish American label that doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world. Trust me you will not see Latino as an option on a Mexican or other Latin-American country Census.
