i live in california, she is on madeira island
i do not know her carrier but something portuguese prob.
how much will it cost me to send 1 txt, and to receive 1 txt?

I think you need a special plan to send texts to people overseas. I think they only let you text people within the USA and Canada. I have Verizon and have not been able to text friends in Switzerland, I always get an error. Call them and find out

just find out her Provider and search on google their website. There they probably have an option to send online text messages. I dont know what is her phone provider but she can send to you just visiting this website: https://text.vzw.com/customer_site/jsp/messaging_lo.jsp
