Madeira wicker basket sled ride #1

The biggest thrill in Funchal, Madeira is riding down blacktopped city streets from Monte to Livramento for just over a mile (2 km) in a wicker basket mounted on two wooden runners to create a sled. The sled is pushed and steered by two locals wearing straw hats. This video clip shows the start of the course. On 22 March 2008 the price for a one-way ride was 20 euros for a single person, 25 euros for two people riding together, and 37.50 euros for three people sharing.
